Sri Lanka Tipis

Our Sri Lanka project, having been devastated by the tsunami, is only now rising from the ashes.Many of the mature palm trees have survived and nature is pretty remarkable, so in a few years it should look fine again. We hope to have a small restaurant, 2 cabanas and 2 tipis up and running for next Christmas,so if you fancy the holiday of a lifetime,get in touch!
      The family who we are helping and who lost 3 family members to the tsunami, have made a wonderful recovery and their guesthouse is open for business again.What resourceful ,amazing people!! Go and stay!! Many heartfelt thanks to all who gave so generously to help them. We are still holding events throughout the year to raise money for them, so contact us if you can help. Thanks.

In December 2004 we opened our tipi and cabana ( a cabana is a rustic, beautiful shelter built from palm trees and leaves), guesthouse and restaurant on the beach front at  Rekawa near Tangalle, southern Sri Lanka . Unfortunately,the Tsunami on Boxing Day wiped us out completely. Luckily we were not there. (we were last year boxing day).Luckily,noone else was either, - we had only been open a few days, but we had bookings and plenty of interest.

Our main concern,however is for the friends and families who were living nearby,and who showed us such kindness and hospitality and support in our project. Their lives have been devastated and livelihoods destroyed.We are collecting money for them, please click on Tsunami Project,Tangalle.

TSUNAMI APPEAL AND PROJECT, TANGALLE

The family who made our adventure in Sri Lanka possible are now living,22 of them, in a small room,with one toilet and little water and little food.The help they received from their government, and from the millions of pounds we all sent amounted to a few sacks of rotten rice, which made them sick.

They have lost everything, including 3 family members-2 sisters(3 out of 4 people who died were women - they don't swim) and one 9 year old boy, Tillina. A Dutch friendhas raised £6000,and is in Tangalle now. We have sent £5000 to our friend Daya at his private bank account - no beaurocracy, or official hindrance.
